Patient came in last week with acute low back pain. Antalgic posture with forward leaning to the right. He could not stand up. Intense pain and could only walk by shuffling his feet into the office.
He has on and off back reoccurring disc compromise to 5 discs. If he goes to long, say 3-6 months without a tune-up or if he lifts something at work repeatedly in a day, he will tweak the lumbar structure.
Utilizing acupuncture to the local sites and with pain points for 30 minutes, allows the pain to dismissed dramatically. Then we begin corrective protocols for results 3-10 days.
On this occasion, he felt better immediately. And as the night went on and he was pain free in 24 hours. Wow !!!

Then with one tune-up he is back to work in construction, 24 hours. He only lost 2 days at work.
Typical a “hot low back” can linger 1-3 weeks in my office, especially if a disc is involved.
In the past, I would to refer out for an epidural injection for pain relief. While we fix the structural imbalance, so the body can heal.

Yes all, tissues heal if given the correct care. Even disc will recover if the destructive forces that “caused” it the first place is corrected and stabilized.
Typical a disc bulge/protrusion will heal in 6 months with my protocols regardless how long you have reoccurring pain.

This patient is the extreme. However, don’t let it happen to you or family.
“Treating the cause, not the symptoms” resolved the recurring hip pain in couple of months. Not 2 years.
Looking at the whole picture. Posture, gait, and reoccurring pain to the hip, low back,
mid back, and migraines.
When your not focused on the big picture you look at the symptoms , and forget what’s connected.

I like to “Keep it simple” so we can use common sense and wellness medicine. Especially in a case like this.
The initial protocol was not correct, it did not work or improve her primary issue. Her Outcome Assessment failed, only option facing her was pain management, not resolution of the problem.
Too many of us use pain management, which does not solve the “cause” of the issue. It only solves the symptom of “pain” , which does not respond unless heavy medication is used. It’s a compromise.
Just don’t stop there..........Especially if your in a management state right now.
I try to suggest on a second opinion, it let’s us keep everything your doing now and try 1-2 or 2-3 things different. A stretch, a foot orthotic, sitting posture changes, work posture changes, etc. If that responds , then let’s see if you actually can ween off your pain medication over the next 3-6 months using symptoms, and blood work, acupuncture graphing to verify changes. Maybe.......someday you won’t need it or as as much.
This option of having another protocol going after the “cause” while you have another protocol on board with drugs for pain, even chronic sickness, etc., supplemental nutrition, metabolic nutrition and eating better foods and enzymes improve our body's own immune system.
It makes sense in my office, that if no change is occurring in 5-10 days then the differential diagnosis was incorrect or not broad enough. Some component is missing.
Results should be changed with each visit pending the length of time it took to get into my office.
I work with all cases, but the most profound are the difficult cases such as reoccurring pain, injury or sickness for 6-12 months plus or more.
The change is there, it may be slower but change.
Because the whole structural and chemistry and acupuncture meridians will slowly be brought back to a functional normal state......Not keeping your body in a perpetual chaos state.
Let along with medication being processed by the liver and kidneys, we need to considered an exit strategy to reduce medication whenever possible.

Then maybe chronic medication can be adjusted as we go, think about your exit strategy.

But, 1-2 times a month for better health, is a lot more manageable than 3-4 times a week for months interrupting your life and your family.
